Chapter 12
Sophie made the two of them green tea as she told her about remodeling her dad’s house a little at a time. She started with the kitchen because she loved to cook. Butcher block counters, floating shelves, teal cabinets, and a black farmhouse sink.
“So I just wanted some excitement and a way to make extra money. I also grew up with boring, conservative parents, so I guess I’ve been rebelling ever since I left home,” Sophie said, sipping her tea.
“That sounds a lot like me. I have a family, so I have some restrictions…or limitations…well, I’m not bitter or anything like that. I love my family–”
“Elise, I totally understand. Yes, I have more freedom than you, and maybe I will eventually settle down, but when relationships get too serious, I tend to feel like I can’t breathe. Not that I just sleep around. I guess I’m more polyamorous. I care about who I see.”
Elise drank too much tea as she felt a connection with her but didn’t necessarily want Sophie to have a connection with Ethan. She sat in that conflict as she tried to change the subject.
